Lunges for Bowling Leg Strength
Bowling leg strength is an important part of your game. Your leg muscles are used with every shot in bowling. Delivering a smoothly rolling ball requires a low position at the line. Being able to hold this position without lifting or falling over at the release point is key to delivering consistent, strong shots to the pocket. Keeping the leg muscles strong will make it easier to hold that low position game after game.
Sport-specific exercises use the muscles in a movement similar to your sport. Lunges are a great example – the exercise imitates your slide or final step of your approach. Lunges strengthen the large muscles of the thighs – the quadriceps, the hamstrings and the glutes.
There are many variations of lunges. The video below demonstrates one using a chair. However you choose to do them, be sure to keep your shoulders directly over your hips and never bend your knee deeper than 90 degrees! Do the exercise with both legs to keep your body in balance and injury free.
